Leighton Farm Leighton Farm has much to offer in the retraining of Thoroughbreds. Kimberly Clark has a unique understanding of horses coming off the track due to her presence there with them for many years as a rider, trainer and caretaker. Isn't it important to understand the horse's initial foundation? We offer specialized services to cater to the needs of each individual horse. Leighton Farm started out handling thoroughbreds for racing clientele only, but over the years we began to help in the transitioning of thoroughbreds off the backstretch into other disciplines. We now offer services for a horse coming off the track and retraining for a new career. We've handled fit race horses on the farm for the last 30 years and have a wealth of knowledge to safely let down and begin the retraining process. When you get a horse off the backstretch, we can let it down for you. We can get on him first, to determine how he is to ride.
We do accept horses here for retraining for as little as a month and for longer periods of time as requested. Leighton Farm has many facilities to help horses progress. A 70 x 200 sand area and both stadium and cross country jumps are available. We also have some bridle trails and room for hacking about to produce a well rounded individual. The cost of retraining is $35 per day.
Two professional full time riders are here every day for breaking, riding and retraining both race and show prospects. We believe cross country hacks are beneficial to the horse's mental and physical fitness. We also provide a solid foundation for any discipline. We achieve this through work that focuses on the fundamentals.
In addition we are very experienced in after surgery or injury care geared for returning your horse to full health. Our facilities are managed so that a horse will have less stress when recovering from an injury or surgery. We see to it that the horse is kept quiet and all therapies and treatments are administered religiously. This is offered at a cost of $20 per day.
