I am pleased to introduce "Newton" as a new prospect at Leighton Farm for show or pleasure. This guy has had all of the advantages. He was bred, raised and green broke by one of the best horsemen in the U.S. and then sent to one of the best horsemen I have ever worked with to begin to prepare for a career at the track. This has produced a good natured, easy going, confident individual who is a pleasure to be around and ride. Newton is 16.3 hands tall and 3 years old. He is completely sound and has no vices. He is a very comfortable ride. He is up to date on vaccinations, farrier and dental care. He is unshod at the present time and his feet are in good condition. |

![]() Newton does have off set knees which is a confirmation flaw, not a soundness issue. They thought he may not hold up to the rigors of racing and rather than risk him - since he is an easy going, mild mannered guy who doesn't show a lot of drive to run - they decided he was best suited for another purpose. He is currently located at Leighton Farm, and offered for $1,500. Please contact me for more information. |
"Boyd" Boyd is unraced and un-named at this time.

He did go to the track for training for about 30 days. In that time it was clear to his connections that he was not a good candidate for a successful racing career. Not only is he incredibly calm, but he needs time to grow and mature. Boyd is a "late bloomer" which sets him up perfectly for a show career. He's well traveled and handled, having lived at the track, but lacks any of the usual issues that come with a horse that has enjoyed a race career. |

Boyd is perfectly sound and lacks any vices. I plan to work him cross country, mostly at the trot for the next 30 days and then begin to work him in the arena.

"Gus"

Gus is a calm, sane and eye catching thoroughbred that will you will fall in love with. He is loved and adored by his owner and everyone here at Leighton Farm. If you dare to meet him, you will love him too.
He is a well-trained sound retired event horse looking for someone to ride him on the flat. Gus stands 16.2 hands with a solid build. He has a very competitive movement. Gus is 18 years old and in excellent health. He knows all of the basic tricks including shoulders in, haunches in, leg yield and half pass and would love to be able to show you what he knows. Gus would like someone to half or full lease him with the possibility to stay here at Leighton Farm, but if you click with Gus, his owner is willing to consider his living at your place too. |

Gus gets along great with other horses and is turned out at present with four other geldings. He can be ridden alone or in company and is a favorite of the volunteers here at Leighton Farm. He is the same guy whether he is ridden once per week or every day which is a super special quality in any horse. No one is perfect and Gus does have one vice, he is a cribber, but not a bad one. He just likes a relaxing crib after dinner. A strap will prevent this. |

Constant Star wins the Breeder's Bridge to High Performance Contest created and run by JMS Sales, Beezie Madden.
She will go to New York to be ridden by Callie Schott in their training program in August.
Click here to read about it.

Beautiful Star has been off the track since she was two, being hacked and allowed to grow by a loving owner. Now at five years old she has begun serious work. I've had her here at Leighton Farm since September and have found her to be a consummate lady. She has been building strength and stamina and skills.
As she builds up, we see her true potential. Star works well with other horses or alone. She is turned out with three other fillies and they are gal pals.
Star is 16 hands and has no vices. Click here to see her videos. See her first dressage show where she won both classes with a 66% and 67%!

"I'm really excited to go out and try these five horses," said Callie Schott. "Beezie, John and I spent quite a bit of time viewing all the videos and these five, although a little varied in type and training level, all seem to have talent, athleticism and potential."

Star shows great potential with jumping, being very cat like and smart. Everyone working with her agrees that she is very good with her knees. I am currently jumping her twice per week over low obstacles and she likes it.
She has now shipped off the farm to work with David Loman, Jim Wofford and Sharon White. Elizabeth Madlener is overseeing her dressage development. She is cantering lines and doing basic gymnastics. Star has jumped up to 3'3" at this point easily, but she is schooling 3'.
The more I do with this girl,
the more impressed I become. She has a great mind and that's as important as the talent she is exhibiting.
